Practice

Technical work that begins with understanding.

The common thread is investigation: understand the underlying system, make complexity observable, test assumptions, and make changes that remain understandable afterwards.

Software, systems and the spaces between them.

01

Software & systems development

Swift, SwiftUI, Python, SQLite, automation tooling, data handling and systems architecture. I favour explicit behaviour, reproducible processes and interfaces that expose what the software is doing.

02

Technical investigation

Fault isolation, root-cause diagnosis, evidence gathering, controlled testing and second opinions for difficult problems where the first explanation may not be the right one.

03

Apple & cross-platform systems

Apple hardware and platforms, lifecycle planning, troubleshooting and integration with Windows, Linux, networking and mixed-vendor environments.

04

Networks & communications

LAN/WAN, connectivity, VoIP/SIP, routing, infrastructure diagnostics, service reliability and multi-vendor communications systems.

05

Technical operations & delivery

Procurement, vendor coordination, deployment, logistics, documentation and the practical work required to take a technical decision through to reliable operation.

06

Documentation & handover

Plain-language technical writing, operational notes and documentation designed so the next person can understand the state of the system without repeating the investigation.

Evidence before assumption.

I am particularly comfortable with systems that have accumulated history: partial documentation, interacting components, inherited constraints and symptoms that do not map neatly to a single cause.

The method is deliberately simple: establish the observed state, reduce the problem, change one thing for a reason, measure the result and preserve what has been learned.

Additional working knowledge: hardware repair and component-level investigation, digital audio and DAW workflows, creative technology, web systems and long-running mixed-platform environments.
